How to Build a Business Around Your Workbook: Lead Magnets to Group Programs
Contents
You spent weeks writing the perfect workbook. You poured yourself into every page, designed beautiful layouts, and finally hit publish. With that said, if you’re only selling it as a standalone product, you’re leaving serious money on the table!
Your workbook isn’t just a digital download. It’s can become the foundation for your entire business. Successful creators don’t just sell their workbooks once and move on. They use that single workbook to build lead magnets, create group programs, and develop premium services that generate income for months and years to come.
In this post, I’m showing you exactly how to build a real business around your workbook using three proven strategies that can take you from single product sales to multiple revenue streams.

Build Your Digital Product BusinesS Around Your Workbook
Think of your workbook as the foundation of your “business ecosystem.” With the right modifications and perhaps a few supporting materials, one workbook can serve you in three distinct ways and help you to build your digital product business.
For each strategy, I’ll let you know a potential target audience, a price point for using that strategy and what your main goal will be for using the strategy.
Let’s take a look…
Strategy #1: Your Lead Generation Magnet
In this strategy, you will use a part (e.g., a section) of your workbook as a lead magnet.
- Target Audience: New people who aren’t ready to buy something (like your course or full program) from you yet.
- Price Point: Free or low cost (think $9 to $19)
- The Goal: Build your email list and nurture relationships
How to Modify Your Workbook: Start by taking your most valuable 5 to 10 pages that give people immediate wins and quick results. You’ll want to include one complete exercise that really shows off what you know and can help people with. Then add a compelling call to action that tells people where they can get the full version of your workbook. The key is creating something so valuable that people can’t help but want more from you.
Supporting Materials You’ll Need: You’ll need to create a series of helpful emails that you send to people over time to build trust and show them more of what you can do. You’ll also want a simple landing page where people can sign up to get your free sample. Make sure you have clear next steps ready for people who want to learn more from you after they’ve gone through your free content.
How to Track Your Success: Keep an eye on how many new people join your email list each month. Watch your email list growth rate to see if it’s increasing over time. Most importantly, track how many people move from your free content to actually buying something from you.
TIP: Choose pages from your workbook that solve one complete problem, but also hint at the bigger transformation available in your full workbook, course, or program (see strategy #2). You want people thinking, “If this free sample delivered this much value, imagine what the full version can do!”
Strategy #2: Higher Ticket Program Foundation
In this strategy, you’ll build off your workbook and create a higher ticket program, like a full-length course or a group coaching program.
- Target Audience: People who want more support than just a workbook
- Price Point: Mid tier pricing ($197 to $997)
- The Goal: Create a scalable group course or program with premium pricing
How to Modify Your Workbook: Add discussion questions after the important sections so people can talk about what they’re learning with others in the group. Include spots throughout the workbook where people can check in on their progress and stay accountable to their goals. Create moments where people pause and reflect on what they’ve learned, which works perfectly for group sharing. Design exercises that are even better when people can get support and encouragement from others going through the same process.
Supporting Materials You’ll Need: Create templates for running group calls based on each section of your workbook so you know exactly what to cover each week. Develop guidelines that help group members support and encourage each other effectively. Consider adding bonus materials that only people in your program get access to, making the program feel more exclusive and valuable.
How to Track Your Success: Count how many people join each round of your program and track whether that number grows over time. Monitor how many people stick with your program from start to finish, since high completion rates mean people are getting real value. Collect testimonials and transformation stories from people who complete the program, as these become powerful marketing tools for future rounds.
TIP: Structure your group calls around the key milestones in your workbook. This helps create natural accountability for your participants and makes the workbook feel essential to getting results, not just a bonus add on!
Strategy #3: Your Client Results Accelerator
In this strategy, you will use your work book as a key part of a premium one-on-one coaching program!
- Target Audience: Existing clients who need structure between sessions
- Price Point: Included with premium services (like coaching programs or high ticket courses)
- The Goal: Improve your client outcomes and help increase referrals
How to Modify Your Workbook: Add specific points throughout the workbook where clients can check in with you about their progress and any challenges they’re facing. Include sections that help people prepare for your upcoming sessions together, so they come ready with questions and insights. Create assignments that people can work on between your meetings, giving them clear action steps that build on what you’ve discussed. Design simple ways for people to track their progress so both you and they can see how far they’ve come.
Supporting Materials You’ll Need: Develop a simple system that helps people stay accountable between your sessions, whether that’s check in emails or progress tracking sheets. Create tools and templates that make it easy for people to see how they’re moving through the workbook and achieving their goals. Build a way to connect what people are learning in the workbook directly to what you’re working on together in your sessions.
How to Track Your Success: Pay attention to whether people are getting better results when they use your workbook alongside your personal help. Send out simple surveys to see if client satisfaction improves when you add the workbook to your services. Watch whether more clients refer their friends to you, since happy clients with great results are your best source of new business.
TIP: Use what you learn from people’s workbook progress to make your sessions more helpful and targeted. When you know exactly where people usually get stuck, you can help them through those spots before they even ask.
Pick Your Starting Point and Go!
You don’t need to use all three of these strategies at once. Start with the one that makes the most sense for where you are right now:
Want more people to know about you? Start with the email list builder approach. Take your best content and get it in front of more people.
Want to make more money per person you help? Focus on the group program strategy. Your workbook probably already has enough content for a 4 to 6 week group program.
Want people to get better results from working with you? Use your workbook in your one on one services. Better results mean happier people who tell their friends about you.
These three approaches work together beautifully. Your free sample brings in new people who eventually join your group programs. Your group programs give you amazing success stories that help get more people to sign up for your free sample. Your premium one-on-one coaching creates detailed case studies that help sell your group programs.
So take time to look at your workbook with fresh eyes. Which parts would make people say “I need more of this”? Which exercises would be amazing to discuss in a group? How could you use it to help people you work with one on one?
Your workbook is already done. The hard work is finished. Now it’s time to make it work way harder for you!
